چکیده

In the cooperation with the European partners, the medical device called CliniporatorTM (IGEA s.r.l., Carpi, Italy) was developed, in the frame of the Cliniporator project (2000-03) funded by European Community. This device was designed for controlled in vivo cell permeabilization by electroporation. Electroporation is used to provide access to molecules distributed freely in the vascular and extracellular compartments that normally do not enter the intracellular compartments.1,2,3 This technique is already used clinically to deliver cytotoxic molecules like bleomycin and cisplatin to solid tumors by electrochemotherapy (ECT).4,5 For a successful cell electroporation a voltage applied for a given electrode tissue geometry, pulse duration and number of pulses should always be in the range between reversible and irreversible threshold value. If the voltage applied exceeds the irreversible threshold value, a change in a cell membrane becomes permanent and destroys the cell. The most commonly very short (100 μs) highvoltage pulse or a sequence of such pulses are delivered. Pulses are generated in the highvoltage generator of CliniporatorTM and delivRadiol Oncol 2004; 38(1): 49-54.

Electrochemotherapy palliation of an oral squamous cell carcinoma in an African hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris)

A five-year-old female African hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris) was referred for a one month growing oral mass. The hedgehog was quiet, alert and responsive, with a 1.00 × 1.50 cm ulcerated lesion on the mandible. The patient was staged with total body radiographs, hematological and biochemical analyses and the mass was biopsied under anesthesia. The excised tissue was reported to be a ...

The Endothelial Permeability Increased by Low Voltage and High Frequency Electroporation

Propose: Standard electroporation and electrochemotherapy caused the endothe- lial cell permeability and reduction in tumor blood flow. The effects of low voltage and high frequency electroporation on the endothelial cells permeability and viability were expected. Therefore, the propose of present study was to evaluate the effect of electroporation with bleomycin or alone on viability and perme...

Educational application for visualization and analysis of electric field strength in multiple electrode electroporation

BACKGROUND Electrochemotherapy is a local treatment that utilizes electric pulses in order to achieve local increase in cytotoxicity of some anticancer drugs. The success of this treatment is highly dependent on parameters such as tissue electrical properties, applied voltages and spatial relations in placement of electrodes that are used to establish a cell-permeabilizing electric field in tar...

Preclinical validation of electrochemotherapy as an effective treatment for brain tumors.

Electrochemotherapy represents a strategy to enhance chemotherapeutic drug uptake by delivering electrical pulses which exceed the dielectric strength of the cell membrane, causing transient formation of structures that enhance permeabilization. Here we show that brain tumors in a rat model can be eliminated by electrochemotherapy with a novel electrode device developed for use in the brain. By...
